How we earn: some casino links on this page may pay us a commission if you sign up. It costs you nothing and never moves a casino up our list. Ontario visitors see only AGCO-registered operators. 19+ (18+ in AB, MB, QC). Full disclosure.
The best online casino in Canada for real money is one you can verify on a regulator’s register, that pays out by Interac e-Transfer to your own bank, and that is legally open to players in your province. Ontario residents should use only AGCO-registered, iGaming Ontario sites. Our ranked list below applies those checks first.

Why is there no single best online casino in Canada for real money?
Search for the best online casino in Canada and you get one list with one winner. That is convenient, but it hides a real problem: the casino that suits a player who wants fast payouts is often not the one that suits someone who plays blackjack at low stakes, and neither may be allowed to take a player who lives in Ontario. “Best” only means something once you know who is playing, where they live, and what they care about most.
Our ranked list uses one score so that you can compare casinos quickly. The weights behind that score are published on our how we rate page, and they favour things that protect your money: a licence we can confirm, Interac e-Transfer in both directions, a stated withdrawal time and bonus terms we could actually read. Within that list, though, the right pick changes with your priorities. The profiles below help you sort that out.
If you care most about fast payouts
Look past the word “instant” in an advert and find the casino’s own stated processing time for Interac withdrawals. A casino that publishes a specific processing window is making a claim you can hold it to. A casino that says nothing is not. Also check whether there is a pending period before processing starts, and whether the casino processes withdrawals on weekends. Our deeper explanation of what slows a payout is further down this page, and our guide to the fastest payout online casinos compares stated times side by side.
If you want to start with a small deposit
A low Interac minimum is the most practical feature for a new player, because it lets you test the whole cycle of deposit, play, verification and withdrawal with money you are comfortable losing. Remember that a low deposit can still carry a high minimum withdrawal, so read both numbers on the payments page before you sign up.
If you mainly play live dealer games
Live dealer players need a casino with a deep live lobby, table limits that match their stakes, and a stable stream on their device. Bonus terms matter less, because many welcome offers count live games at a reduced rate or exclude them altogether. Our best online live casino guide goes through those points, and the live casino hub collects our other live dealer pages.
If you prefer table games
Blackjack, roulette and baccarat players care about rule variations more than lobby size. A single rule, such as how many decks are used or whether the roulette wheel has one zero or two, changes the house edge more than any promotion can. Look for casinos that publish game rules and the theoretical return for each table. We cover this in the table games section below and in our full guide to online casino table games.
If you are mostly a slots player
Slots players benefit from a casino that shows each game’s return to player (RTP) in the game information panel, lets you filter by studio, and does not quietly load lower-RTP versions of popular titles. The same slot can exist in several RTP configurations, so the only reliable figure is the one shown inside the game at the casino you are playing.
If you chase bonuses
Bonus hunters should judge an offer by its terms rather than its headline. A smaller match with low wagering can be worth more than a larger match with high wagering and a cap on winnings. We work through the arithmetic in the bonus maths section, and our casino bonuses hub explains the common offer types. Outside Ontario you can also look at our no deposit bonus guide.
If you live in Ontario
Ontario has its own regulated market, and the rules are different from the rest of the country. You should only play at operators registered with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) that have an operating agreement with iGaming Ontario (iGO), or at OLG.ca. Our list switches to an Ontario view for you, and in that view we do not show bonus figures, because AGCO Registrar’s Standard 2.05 restricts bonus advertising. The Ontario online casino guide covers the details.
How do the player types compare at a glance?
This table summarises what to check first for each kind of player. It lists features to look for, not figures, because limits and times vary from casino to casino and change over time. Each casino’s current figures are in its profile above.
| Player type | Check first | Often overlooked | Where we go deeper |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fast payouts | Stated Interac withdrawal processing time | Pending period and weekend processing | Fastest payout casinos |
| Low deposits | Interac minimum deposit | Minimum withdrawal amount | Interac payments hub |
| Live dealer | Live lobby size and table limits | Reduced bonus contribution for live games | Best live casino |
| Table games | Published rules per table | Deck count, zero count, payout on blackjack | Table games guide |
| Slots | RTP shown inside each game | Different RTP versions of the same title | Guides hub |
| Bonus hunters | Wagering, expiry and max cashout | Maximum bet rule while a bonus is active | Casino bonuses hub |
| Ontario residents | Listed on iGaming Ontario’s directory | Being physically in Ontario while playing | Ontario guide |
What does “real money” mean compared with social, sweepstakes and free play casinos?
A real money online casino takes a deposit in Canadian dollars (or another currency), lets you bet that balance on games, and pays winnings back to you as money you can withdraw to your bank. Every bet is a wager with a cash value. That is the kind of site this page ranks, and it is the kind of site that needs a gambling licence or registration.
Three other kinds of sites look similar but work differently:
- Free play or demo mode. Many real money casinos, and many game studios, let you try a game with pretend credits. Nothing is deposited and nothing can be won. Demo mode is useful for learning how a slot’s features trigger or how a table game’s side bets work before you spend anything, and it is a sensible first step with any unfamiliar game.
- Social casinos. These apps sell virtual coins for entertainment. The coins cannot be cashed out. Spending can still add up quickly, so the same budgeting habits apply, but you cannot win money.
- Sweepstakes-style casinos. These use two kinds of virtual currency, one of which can sometimes be redeemed for prizes. The model is built around laws in other countries and is not a substitute for a regulated casino in Canada. If a site asks you to buy “coins” but promises cash prizes, treat it with extra care and check who regulates it before you spend anything.
The practical difference is protection. A real money casino that holds a licence you can verify owes you duties that the regulator can enforce: to pay what you win under its terms, to keep your funds, to verify who you are and to offer tools that limit your play. A social app owes you almost none of that, because in theory there is nothing to lose. When real money is involved, the licence is what gives you someone to complain to.
Which is safer: an Ontario-regulated casino, a provincial lottery site or an offshore-licensed casino?
Canada does not have one national online casino market. Under section 207(1)(a) of the Criminal Code, it is lawful for a provincial government to conduct and manage a lottery scheme in that province, and online casino games fall under that power. Each province has used it differently, which leaves Canadian players choosing between three broad kinds of site.
Ontario’s regulated private market
Ontario lets private operators run online casinos under a provincial framework. According to iGaming Ontario, a fully authorized operator has received a registration from the AGCO and, with the exception of OLG.ca, has signed an operating agreement with iGO. iGO publishes a directory of these sites. As of 1 September 2026 it listed 49 operators and 84 gaming websites, open to players who are 19 or older and physically located in Ontario.
The AGCO also sets conduct standards that apply to these operators. Its Registrar’s Standards for Internet Gaming include rules on how bonuses are advertised (Standard 2.05), a requirement that material bonus conditions are disclosed and that an offer is not called free unless it is (Standard 2.06), and a ban on advertising that appeals to minors (Standard 2.03). Standard 1.21 requires operators to make sure their marketing affiliates do not also promote unregistered sites that take Ontario players.
Provincial lottery corporation sites
Outside Ontario, most provinces run their own online casino through a Crown lottery corporation or agency. In Alberta, the AGLC states that Play Alberta is the only regulated online gambling site in the province. PlayNow.com serves British Columbia, with separate versions for Manitoba and for Saskatchewan (run with SIGA). Quebec residents have Loto-Québec’s online games, and Atlantic Canada has Atlantic Lottery. Ontario has OLG.ca alongside its private market.
These sites are run by or for the province, so the protection comes from the provincial government itself. Their game ranges and promotions tend to be narrower than those at private casinos, but they are the one option that is plainly authorized where you live.
Offshore-licensed casinos
Many casinos that accept Canadians outside Ontario hold a licence from a regulator based elsewhere, or from the Kahnawake Gaming Commission. These casinos are not authorized by your province, and they are not open to Ontario players under Ontario’s framework. Some are well run; some are not. The only way to tell is to check the regulator’s register yourself and to read the terms closely. That is why our list only includes casinos whose licence we found on the regulator’s own register.
How to complain if something goes wrong
Where you complain depends on who licenses the casino. Start with the casino’s own support team and ask for its formal complaints procedure in writing. Keep screenshots, transaction references and chat transcripts.
- At an Ontario-registered operator, if the casino does not resolve your complaint, the AGCO is the regulator that registers and oversees it.
- At a provincial lottery corporation site, escalate through that corporation’s customer service and published complaint process.
- At an offshore-licensed casino, use the complaint route on the licensing regulator’s website. Some regulators handle player disputes; others refer them to an approved dispute service. Check which applies before you deposit, not after a problem arises.
| Site type | Who authorizes it | Who you can escalate to | Open to Ontario players? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ontario private operator | AGCO registration plus iGaming Ontario operating agreement | The operator, then the AGCO | Yes, 19+ and physically in Ontario |
| OLG.ca | Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation | OLG customer service | Yes |
| Provincial site elsewhere (Play Alberta, PlayNow, Loto-Québec, Atlantic Lottery) | The province, through its lottery corporation or agency | That corporation’s complaint process | No, each serves its own province |
| Offshore-licensed casino | A regulator outside the province | The operator, then its licensing regulator’s process | No |
For a province-by-province view, see our provinces hub, with separate guides for Alberta and Quebec.
Why do some casino withdrawals take so long?
“Fast payout” is the most common promise in casino advertising and the one players most often feel let down by. Understanding where the time actually goes helps you pick a casino that is quick for real reasons and spot the ones that only claim to be. A withdrawal can be held up at seven different points, and most of them are under your control or at least visible in advance.
- The account is not verified yet. The first withdrawal usually triggers identity and address checks. If you wait until you want to cash out before uploading documents, the review starts then, and any request for a clearer photo or a different document adds another round.
- A bonus is still active. Most casinos will not pay out while wagering requirements are incomplete. Some cancel the bonus and any winnings from it when you request a withdrawal; others simply block the request. Either way, clear or forfeit the bonus before you ask for your money.
- The pending period. Some casinos hold every withdrawal request for a fixed time before processing starts. During that time you can often reverse the request and keep playing. If you know you tend to do that, look for a casino with a short pending period, or none.
- Processing hours. A casino’s payments team may not work weekends or holidays. A request made on a Friday evening may not be looked at until Monday. The stated processing time often means business days.
- Method mismatch. Many casinos require you to withdraw by the same method you used to deposit, up to the amount deposited. If you deposited by card and want to withdraw by Interac e-Transfer, expect extra steps.
- Withdrawal limits. A large win may be paid in instalments if it exceeds the casino’s daily, weekly or monthly withdrawal limit. This is in the terms and is worth reading before you play at high stakes.
- Security reviews. Unusual patterns, such as a sudden change of payment details or logging in from a new country, can trigger an extra review. This protects you as well as the casino, but it takes time.
Once the casino approves the payout, an Interac e-Transfer usually moves quickly. In our experience the delays almost always happen before that point, inside the casino. That is why we score the processing time a casino states on its own site, not the speed of the transfer itself.
Three habits cut most of the waiting: verify your account on the day you open it, withdraw only when no bonus is active, and cash out to the same Interac-linked bank account you deposited from. For a comparison of stated times, see our guides to the fastest payout online casinos and the best payout online casinos in Canada. Note that “best payout” can mean quick withdrawals or high game returns; those guides explain both.
Which banking methods work best at Canadian real money casinos?
Interac e-Transfer is the method most Canadians reach for, and it is the focus of this site, but it is worth knowing how it compares with the alternatives a casino cashier might offer. The table describes how each method generally behaves. Specific limits, fees and times are set by each casino and your bank, and we show verified figures in each casino’s profile rather than here.
| Method | How it works | Withdrawals | Things to watch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Interac e-Transfer | Bank-to-bank transfer approved in your own banking app or online banking | Often available, but not at every casino | Your bank’s e-Transfer sending limits; account names must match |
| Debit or credit card | Card number entered at the cashier | Card withdrawals are not always supported | Some Canadian card issuers decline gambling transactions; card details are shared with the casino or its processor |
| E-wallets | A separate online account funded from your bank | Usually supported where deposits are | Some casinos exclude e-wallet deposits from bonuses; another account to secure |
| Bank wire | Direct transfer between banks | Common for larger payouts | Bank fees and slower processing |
| Prepaid vouchers | Code bought in advance and entered at the cashier | Usually deposit only | You will need another method to cash out |
| Cryptocurrency | Transfer from a crypto wallet | Varies | Not available at Ontario-regulated sites; value can change between deposit and withdrawal |
A note on cryptocurrency, because it appears in many casino cashiers. We explain it here so you know what you are looking at; we do not recommend it. A crypto deposit is converted to a casino balance at the rate of the moment, and the value of any coins you withdraw can rise or fall before you convert them back to dollars. Crypto transfers are generally hard to reverse, so a payment sent to the wrong address or to a dishonest site is very difficult to recover. Ontario’s regulated operators do not take crypto, and nothing on this site suggests Ontario players use it.
Interac e-Transfer avoids most of those issues. You pay from the bank account you already hold, in Canadian dollars, without giving a card number to the casino, and you get a record in your bank app. Interac and the Interac logo are registered trademarks of Interac Corp.; we are not affiliated with Interac Corp. Our Interac payments hub has the full set of guides.
How much can you move with Interac at a casino?
Two sets of limits apply, and the lower one decides what you can actually send. The casino publishes a minimum and maximum for each Interac deposit and withdrawal. Your bank sets its own daily, weekly and monthly e-Transfer limits, which differ from bank to bank and account to account. The chart below compares the stated Interac maximums at the casinos we list.
If you expect to deposit near your bank’s limit, check that limit in your banking app first. Raising it usually means contacting the bank, and it is a good moment to ask yourself whether that amount fits your gambling budget. For withdrawals, the casino’s maximum per transaction matters more: a large win may arrive over several transfers.
What is RTP, and how do the main game types compare?
Return to player (RTP) is a game’s theoretical payback over a very large number of rounds, expressed as a percentage of the amount wagered. It is set by the studio that makes the game and, for regulated games, tested by an independent lab. The difference between 100 per cent and the RTP is the house edge, the share the casino expects to keep over the long run.
RTP describes the average across millions of rounds. It says nothing reliable about one session. A slot with a high RTP can take a session’s whole budget in minutes, and one with a lower RTP can pay out a large win on the first spin. What RTP does tell you is which games cost less to play over time, on average, and that is useful information for anyone who plays regularly.
We do not publish RTP figures for individual games on this page, because the same title can be released in several RTP configurations and the casino chooses which one to offer. The only figure you can rely on is the one shown in the game’s information or help panel at the casino where you are playing. If a casino does not show it, that is a mark against it.
| Game type | What decides the house edge | Where to find the figure | Volatility in practice |
|---|---|---|---|
| Video slots | The configuration the casino chose from the studio’s options | The game’s info or paytable screen | Varies widely by title, from frequent small wins to rare large ones |
| Progressive jackpot slots | Part of each bet funds the jackpot, which is usually included in the stated RTP | The game’s info screen | Very high; most of the return is concentrated in rare jackpot wins |
| Blackjack | Table rules and your decisions | The game’s rules page | Lower; results swing less per hand |
| Roulette | Number of zeros on the wheel | The game’s rules page | Depends on the bet: even-money bets swing less than single numbers |
| Baccarat | Which bet you choose and the commission on banker wins | The game’s rules page | Lower on the main bets; side bets swing more |
| Live dealer games | The same rule factors as the digital version | The table’s rules panel | Similar to the equivalent digital game |
| Game shows | The wheel or bonus round design, set by the studio | The game’s info panel | Often high, with multiplier rounds |
Volatility, sometimes called variance, is the other half of the picture. Two games with the same RTP can feel completely different: one pays small amounts often, the other pays rarely but in larger amounts. Low-volatility games stretch a budget further; high-volatility games burn through it faster in most sessions but offer the chance of a bigger single win. Choose the volatility that matches your budget and patience, not the one with the most exciting advert.
What are the best online casino table games for real money?
Table games reward players who read the rules, because small rule changes make large differences to the house edge. Here is what to look for in each of the main games before you put real money on the table. Our full guide to online casino table games covers strategy in more depth.
Blackjack
Blackjack has one of the lowest house edges in the casino when played with sound basic strategy, but only on a table with fair rules. Check what a blackjack pays: a table that pays 3 to 2 is much better for the player than one that pays 6 to 5. Then check whether the dealer hits or stands on a soft 17, how many decks are used, whether you can double after splitting, and whether surrender is offered. Each of these shifts the edge. A basic strategy chart for the exact rules at your table tells you the best decision in every situation; using it is not cheating, and it is the single biggest thing a blackjack player can do to reduce the cost of play.
Roulette
Roulette’s edge comes from the zero pockets. A European wheel has one zero; an American wheel has a zero and a double zero, which roughly doubles the house edge on most bets. Some tables offer a rule that returns half of an even-money bet when the ball lands on zero, which reduces the edge further. Betting systems that change stake sizes after wins or losses do not change the house edge on any spin; they only change how your results are distributed.
Baccarat
Baccarat is simple: you bet on the banker, the player or a tie. The banker bet usually carries a small commission on wins because it wins slightly more often. The tie bet pays more but carries a far larger house edge. Side bets add excitement and cost. Many experienced baccarat players stick to the main bets for that reason.
Poker-based table games
Games such as Caribbean stud, three card poker and casino hold’em are played against the house rather than other players. Each has an optimal strategy and a published paytable. Compare paytables between casinos, because the same game can pay differently on some hands.
Craps and other dice games
Craps looks intimidating but the core bets are among the better value in the casino. The pass and don’t pass lines carry a low edge, and the “odds” bet behind them has no house edge at all. The one-roll proposition bets in the middle of the table are the costly ones.
Across all table games, the same advice applies: read the rules panel, choose the variant with the most player-friendly rules, set a stake size that lets you play a reasonable number of hands within your budget, and be cautious with side bets.
Can you play at a real money online casino on your phone?
Yes. Almost every casino we list works in a mobile browser, and some also offer an app. The mobile version normally carries the same account, balance, limits and responsible gambling tools as the desktop site, so you can switch between devices freely.
A few points are specific to mobile play:
- Browser or app. A mobile browser site needs no installation and updates automatically. An app may be slightly smoother and can use your phone’s fingerprint or face unlock. Download apps only from the official app store or from a link on the casino’s own site.
- Interac on mobile. Mobile is where Interac e-Transfer is most convenient, because the approval step happens in your banking app on the same phone.
- Game availability. Most modern slots and live dealer tables are built for phones. A few older titles may not appear in the mobile lobby.
- Data and connection. Live dealer streams use more data than slots. A dropped connection during a live hand is usually handled by the game’s rules, which are in its help panel.
- Location. In Ontario you must be physically in the province to play, and regulated apps check your location. If you travel, the app may block play until you return.
- Time awareness. Phones make it easy to play in short bursts that add up. Set a deposit limit and reality check reminders in your account settings, which apply on every device.
How can you tell if an online casino in Canada is legit?
A legit online casino in Canada is one you can confirm on a regulator’s own register, that publishes clear terms, and that pays out according to them. Checking takes ten minutes, and it is the most valuable ten minutes you will spend before you deposit. Our safe online casino guide goes through each step with examples; the essentials are below.
Check the register, not the footer
A licence seal in a casino’s footer is a picture. Anyone can copy it. What matters is whether the regulator’s own website lists the casino’s operating company and domain.
- Find the licensing details in the casino footer or terms: the regulator’s name, the licence or registration number if one is given, and the name of the operating company.
- Open the regulator’s website directly by typing its address, not by clicking the seal on the casino site.
- Search the register for the company name and check that the domain you are on is listed under it.
- For Ontario, check the casino appears in iGaming Ontario’s directory of regulated sites.
- Note the date you checked. Registrations can be suspended or lapse.
Watch for cloned licence seals
A cloned seal is a copy of a real regulator’s badge placed on a site the regulator has never licensed. Sometimes it links to a fake verification page designed to look like the regulator’s. Signs of a clone include a seal that does not link anywhere, a link that leads to a page on the casino’s own domain, a verification page with a web address that is close to but not the same as the regulator’s, and company details that do not match the register. If any of those appear, do not deposit.
Red flags that should stop you
- No company name or registered address anywhere in the terms.
- Terms that allow the casino to void winnings for vague reasons, such as “irregular play”, without defining them.
- A maximum cashout on real money winnings (not just bonus winnings) that is unusually low.
- Pressure tactics: countdown timers on offers, repeated calls or messages after you decline, or staff urging you to deposit more to “unlock” a withdrawal.
- Requests to pay a fee or tax up front before a withdrawal is released. A regulated casino deducts any fee from the payout; it does not ask you to send more money.
- A casino that accepts Ontario players without appearing on the iGO directory.
- Support that cannot or will not name the regulator or the operating company.
- Copied or inconsistent terms, such as references to a different brand’s name.
Why we only list register-verified casinos
Every casino in our list passed the register check before it was scored. The section below shows each licence we checked, with the register it came from and the date.
How did we check each casino’s licence?
For every casino in the list, we opened the regulator’s own register, searched for the operating company and matched the domain. We recorded the regulator, the company, any permit or licence number the register shows, and the date. Where a register lists a company without a number, we say so rather than copy a number from the casino’s footer. For Ontario, we checked the iGaming Ontario directory. A casino whose licence we could not find is not listed, however strong its offer.

How do you work out what a casino bonus is really worth?
Bonus offers are built to look generous. The terms decide what they are worth. The worked examples below use round, made-up numbers purely to show the arithmetic. They are illustrations, not any casino’s actual offer. Bonus details are not shown to Ontario visitors, in line with AGCO Standard 2.05; the maths still helps if you receive an offer directly from a regulated operator after giving consent.
Example 1: how much you must wager
Suppose, for illustration only, a casino offers a 100 per cent match on a deposit of $50, giving a $50 bonus, with a wagering requirement of 30 times the bonus.
- Wagering required: 30 × $50 = $1,500 in bets.
- If you bet $1 a spin, that is 1,500 spins before the bonus becomes withdrawable.
Now change one term. If the same illustrative offer requires 30 times the deposit plus the bonus, the base is $100, and the requirement becomes 30 × $100 = $3,000. The headline is identical; the work is doubled.
Example 2: the expected cost of wagering
Every bet carries a house edge, so wagering has an expected cost. Using an illustrative game with a house edge of 4 per cent:
- Expected loss while wagering $1,500: 4% × $1,500 = $60.
- Bonus received: $50.
- On average, you would expect to lose more to the house edge than the bonus adds, before any other terms.
With a lower illustrative house edge of 2 per cent, the expected loss on the same $1,500 is $30, and the bonus has positive average value. This is why game choice and wagering together decide a bonus’s value, and why casinos restrict which games count.
Example 3: game weighting
Many casinos count only part of each table game bet toward wagering. If, in an illustrative offer, slots count 100 per cent and blackjack counts 10 per cent, a $10 blackjack hand clears only $1 of wagering. Clearing $1,500 on blackjack alone would need $15,000 in bets, which multiplies the expected cost.
Example 4: maximum cashout and maximum bet
If an illustrative bonus caps winnings at $200, any balance above $200 is removed when you withdraw, however lucky you were. And if the terms set a maximum bet of $5 while the bonus is active, a single $10 bet can give the casino grounds to void the bonus and its winnings. Both terms are in the bonus rules and both are easy to miss.
A quick checklist before you accept any bonus
- Is wagering based on the bonus alone, or the deposit plus the bonus?
- How long do you have to complete it?
- Which games count, and at what rate?
- What is the maximum bet while the bonus is active?
- Is there a cap on winnings?
- Can you decline the bonus and play with your deposit alone?
Declining is always a reasonable choice. Without a bonus, your deposit and winnings are yours to withdraw at any time, subject only to verification. Our casino bonuses hub explains offer types in more detail.
Why does a casino ask for ID, and how do you get verified faster?
Account verification, usually called know your customer or KYC, is how a casino confirms that you are who you say you are, that you are old enough to play, and that the money you deposit is yours. Licensed casinos are required to do it. A casino that never asks for any identification before paying out a significant sum should make you more cautious, not less.
Most casinos ask for some combination of the following:
- Photo ID: a driver’s licence, passport or provincial photo card, showing your full name, date of birth and expiry date.
- Proof of address: a recent utility bill, bank statement or government letter with your name and address.
- Payment method: a screenshot or statement showing the bank account used for Interac e-Transfer is in your name.
- Source of funds: for larger deposits, some casinos ask where the money comes from, such as a pay slip or savings statement.
To get through quickly, upload clear colour photos with all four corners visible, make sure the name and address match exactly what you entered at sign-up, and send everything at once rather than one document at a time. Blank out information the casino does not need, such as account balances on a bank statement, if the casino’s instructions allow it. Finally, check how the casino stores and protects your documents; its privacy policy should say. Canadian businesses handling personal information are subject to privacy law, and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner explains your rights under PIPEDA. In Quebec, the Commission d’accès à l’information is the privacy regulator.
What responsible gambling tools should a real money casino offer?
A good casino makes it easy to control your own play. At minimum, look for these tools in your account settings before you deposit:
- Deposit limits by day, week or month. Lowering a limit should take effect immediately; raising one should involve a waiting period.
- Loss and wager limits that cap how much you can lose or bet in a period.
- Session time limits and reality checks that remind you how long you have been playing and what you have spent.
- Time-outs that lock the account for a short period.
- Self-exclusion that closes the account for a longer period, usually months or years, and cannot be reversed early.
- Account history showing every deposit, withdrawal and bet.
Gambling should cost you only what you have set aside for entertainment. If it stops being fun, if you are chasing losses, or if you are spending money meant for bills, stop and talk to someone. Free, confidential help is available:

What is the legal gambling age in each province?
You must be 19 or older to play at an online casino in most provinces, and 18 or older in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec. In Ontario, PlaySmart states that online casino gaming is 19+. Play Alberta is 18+, PlayNow Manitoba is 18+ and Loto-Québec’s online games are 18+. PlayNow Saskatchewan is 19+, and Atlantic Lottery products are 19+. Casinos check your age during verification, and an underage account will be closed with winnings withheld.
Do you pay tax on online casino winnings in Canada?
For most recreational players, no. The Canada Revenue Agency’s Income Tax Folio S3-F9-C1 explains that an individual’s gambling becomes taxable business income only where the gambling activities amount to a source of income, in other words a business. The folio also states that a prize from a lottery scheme is not taxable as either income or a capital gain.
Whether gambling is a business depends on the facts, and the folio discusses the factors involved. If gambling is a significant and organized part of how you earn a living, speak to a tax professional. Separately, interest or investment income you earn on winnings after you receive them is taxable in the normal way. Our guide to whether casino winnings are taxed in Canada covers the question in more detail.
How do you sign up and make your first Interac deposit, step by step?
The homepage covers the basic deposit flow. This checklist runs from choosing a casino to your first withdrawal, with the checks that protect you built into each step.
- Confirm the casino is open to you. Check your province. In Ontario, confirm the site is on the iGaming Ontario directory. Elsewhere, check the licence on the regulator’s register, or use our list, where that check is already done.
- Read the payments page. Note the Interac minimum and maximum, whether Interac withdrawals are offered, the stated processing time, and any fees.
- Open the account with your real details. Use your legal name exactly as it appears on your ID and bank account. Mismatches are the most common cause of held withdrawals.
- Set your limits first. Before depositing, set a deposit limit and reality check in the account settings.
- Upload your verification documents. Do it now rather than at your first withdrawal.
- Decide on any bonus. Outside Ontario, read the terms and decide whether to opt in or play with your deposit alone. If you do not want a bonus, make sure the opt-in box is unticked.
- Deposit by Interac e-Transfer. Choose Interac in the cashier, enter an amount within both the casino’s and your bank’s limits, and approve the payment from your bank. Copy any reference exactly.
- Test a small withdrawal. Once you have played, withdraw a small amount to confirm the process works before you deposit more.
- Keep records. Save confirmation emails and screenshots of deposits and withdrawals until each transaction completes.
Are new online casinos a good choice?
New casinos can offer modern lobbies and competitive terms, but they have no track record of paying out. Apply the same register check, and start with a small deposit and a test withdrawal. Our guide to new online casinos explains what to look for when a site is too new for its history to speak for it.
Which casino terms should you know beyond the basics?
Our homepage explains core terms such as KYC, RTP and wagering requirements. These are the next layer, the ones that most often decide whether a real money session ends the way you expected.
- House edge
- The casino’s long-run average advantage on a bet, equal to 100 per cent minus the RTP.
- Volatility
- How widely a game’s results swing. High-volatility games pay less often but in larger amounts; low-volatility games pay more often in smaller amounts.
- Game weighting
- The share of a bet on a given game that counts toward a bonus wagering requirement.
- Maximum bet rule
- The largest single bet allowed while a bonus is active. Breaking it can void the bonus and its winnings.
- Maximum cashout
- A cap on how much can be withdrawn from bonus winnings.
- Sticky bonus
- A bonus that can be used to play but is removed from the balance at withdrawal. A non-sticky bonus is used only after your own deposit has been played.
- Self-exclusion
- A player-requested block on an account for a set period that cannot be lifted early.
- Reality check
- An on-screen reminder at set intervals showing time played and net result.
- Source of funds
- Evidence of where deposited money comes from, sometimes requested for larger amounts.
- Closed-loop withdrawal
- A rule that you withdraw to the same method you deposited with, up to the amount deposited.
- AGCO
- The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, which registers and sets standards for Ontario’s online gambling operators.
How do we keep this page accurate?
Every figure in the list and profiles comes from a primary source, such as the regulator’s register or the casino’s own payments and terms pages, and carries the date it was checked. We re-check licences and Interac limits at least monthly and bonus terms whenever an offer changes. Our full method is on the how we rate page, and you can return to the main Interac casino table on our homepage or browse our casino reviews for individual casinos.
Your questions, answered
What is the best online casino in Canada for real money?
The best choice is a casino whose licence you can confirm on the regulator's own register, that pays out by Interac e-Transfer to your bank, and that is legally open in your province. Ontario residents should use only AGCO-registered sites listed by iGaming Ontario. Our ranked list applies these checks before scoring.
Is it legal to play at a real money online casino in Canada?
Section 207 of the Criminal Code lets each provincial government conduct and manage lottery schemes, including online casino games, so the rules depend on your province. Ontario has a regulated private market under the AGCO and iGaming Ontario; most other provinces run their own site, such as Play Alberta or PlayNow.
How can I tell if an online casino in Canada is legit?
Go to the regulator's website directly, not through the seal in the casino footer, and search its register for the operating company and domain. For Ontario, check iGaming Ontario's directory. Walk away if the seal links nowhere, company details do not match, or the casino asks for an up-front fee to release a withdrawal.
Which online casinos in Canada pay out fastest?
Look for a casino that states a specific processing time for Interac withdrawals on its own site, with a short pending period. Most delays happen inside the casino, not at the bank. Verify your account early, clear or forfeit any bonus first, and withdraw to the bank account you deposited from.
What is the minimum age to play at an online casino in Canada?
You must be 19 or older in most provinces, including Ontario, Saskatchewan and the Atlantic provinces. The minimum age is 18 in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec. Casinos confirm your age during identity checks, and an account opened by someone underage will be closed with any winnings withheld.
Are online casino winnings taxed in Canada?
For most recreational players, no. CRA Income Tax Folio S3-F9-C1 says gambling produces taxable income only when it amounts to a business, and lottery prizes are not taxable as income or capital gains. If gambling is an organized source of your income, speak with a tax professional about your situation.
Which table games are best for real money play?
Blackjack played with basic strategy on a table that pays 3 to 2, single-zero roulette, the main bets in baccarat and the pass line in craps tend to carry lower house edges. Always read the table's rules panel, because deck count, zero count and payout rules change the edge.
Where can I get help if gambling stops being fun?
In Ontario, call ConnexOntario at 1-866-531-2600 or text CONNEX to 247247. Gambling Support BC is at 1-888-795-6111, the Alberta Addiction Helpline at 1-866-332-2322, and Quebec's Jeu : aide et référence at 1 800 461-0140. Casinos also offer deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion.
